I was at Ben Gurion airport finishing a few weeks’ visit in Israel. I thought “We'll be back within 6 months to a year, no worries.” But the world had a different plan for me.

About 6 months later, I lost my job and I thought I would have to give up on my life here and head back to Israel. When I was little, my mom used to tell me “For some people, things will come easily, but for you, you’ll need to work harder to get what you want”. That’s what I did when I had to decide whether I should fly to Israel or work hard at my new job. For the first time I decided not to head back home to Israel.

At the time, it was the hardest decision that I had ever had to make: to not see my family for over a year. Looking at things now, I'm glad that I made that decision. In the past 7 months, I have learned so much about myself and how much I’ve grown. But this week, for the first time in almost a year and a half, I'm going to see some of my family from Israel.

In the last few weeks I have been thinking a lot about what I have been through and how much I have changed in the last year, and if you were to ask me how I feel about the past y

ear, I would say “proud”. I’m proud of myself for working so hard to get to where I am, both at work and in my personal life. I'm proud of not giving up, even in the bad times. And I'm proud of myself for challenging myself to learn new things every day.

I’m not saying my life is perfect right now. I still have more things to learn.

So if you are wondering, am I flying back to Israel now? No, the COVID cases are still really high right now. However, I am going to spend the next 10 days in Spain and Andorra.
